Do you really need a pre wedding shoot?

It’s an amazing opportunity to dress up and have stunning, unique images nobody else has.

In our view, a pre wedding shoot is well worth the additional effort. But keep in mind not all photographers treat pre wedding shoots the same way. We’ll cover this later in this document under the heading photographer warning signs.

A pre wedding shoot, which by the way we call E shoot (short for engagement shoot) has many benefits which we’ll go into in a minute. If you have already booked a photographer or you’re still looking, this article has some valuable content on the subject of pre wedding shoots. You should use this information to ensure your chosen photographer is using the time you have invested into your E shoot to the maximum benefit. Of Course, we don’t know what all other photographers do, they’re all different and offer different things, but what we can tell you with absolute certainty is what we do, and why.

In summary, a pre wedding shoot has many benefits including:

  • An opportunity for us to learn more about your wedding.
  • Learning tips and tricks for more natural wedding images.
  • Our understanding of your strengths and weaknesses in front of the camera.
  • Coaching on posture and interaction for a more genuine feel to your images.
  • Build your confidence in front of the camera.
  • Ask any related questions.
  • See all your photos in an online gallery.

It’s an amazing opportunity to dress up and have stunning, unique images nobody else has.

Lastly, it provides us plenty of creative freedom to shoot some beautiful photos for your save-the-date cards, wedding invitations, announcements, and guestbooks etc.

Overall we understand you’re investing time to attend your E shoot, so it’s got to be exciting, fun, but also educational. A benefit to you to the future wedding as opposed to just standing in front of the camera for few happy snaps.

WHEN TO HAVE YOUR PRE WEDDING SHOOT
The best time is autumn or spring. Winter is generally too cold, and summer often too hot. We do offer a night shoot option which is extremely popular, and because it’s cooler at night during summer the night shoots are very popular. Keep in mind that daylight savings in some states can mean your night Eshoot won’t commence until around 8.30pm. A night E shoot is a little extra in cost, but the images are so unique and exquisite, you won’t be able to take your eyes off them.

WHERE
It depends on the look and feel you want. We’ve done E shoots in cinema’s where couples had their first date, in exotic locations such as Paris, Venice, and Ireland where they first travelled and fell in love. We’ve done E shoots in parks, beaches, cafe’s and in exotic and or important buildings. The good news is, it’s totally up to you. Generally, a good start is to consider a place that means something to you. Where you first met, your first date, your first kiss. Those locations all mean something to you, and hence the images will have a deeper connection to you. From there we can venture out to more stunning venues with amazing back grounds.

WHAT TO WEAR
E shoots are a formal affair. Trust us, shorts and thongs are not a good look for pre wedding photos. We’re going to use all our skill, knowledge and creative talent to capture timeless elegance images of a couple in love. You need to look amazing and go all out for what is an epic opportunity to have some priceless artistic images to die for.
P.S Black tie / Ball gown are our favourites.

HAIR AND MAKE UP
It’s a great opportunity to have your hair and makeup trial in conjunction with your E shoot. We don’t include hair and makeup with our E shoots, so if you can manage to arrange your H&M trial on the same day as your shoot, it could save you some serious dollars.

THE WEATHER
We can’t change your wedding day if it rains, and it’s the same with E shoots. It’s likely you have taken the day off to have your E shoot, so we always conduct planned E shoots irrespective of the weather. Your chosen photographer should assist with rain locations as we do, but Google is always a great start to finding suitable locations out of the rain. Our team knows all the places close to you to keep you dry.

HERE ARE SOME WARNING SIGNS TO KEEP IN MIND
If you have already chosen a photographer and they don’t conduct your pre wedding shoot in a way that provides an educational component, such as posture and natural interaction techniques, or you feel they are doing the minimum, NOW is a good opportunity to cancel their services and reconsider your choice. If you’re not impressed with your pre wedding photos, it’s likely the same story with your wedding memories. Too many wedding photographers require payment in advance and demonstrate an attitude of “Why should I make effort, I’m already paid. I already have the money.” If you feel you made the wrong choice, do something about it now to avoid a lifetime of regret and disappointment.
